In Mumbai, the Western Railways is looking to increase AC coaches for local train services, stated a report by the ANI.
A survey was carried out amongst
the local train travellers of the Mumbai suburban train network to understand
their predilection for an alteration in the Local Train Services.
Alok Bansal, General Manager of
the Western Railway in his conversation with the ANI elaborated that the survey
included 20 questions and based on the responses, 70% of the travellers urged
the railway authorities to surge the number of AC locals. He added that the
authority is working towards adding more AC local trains and are in regular
conversation with the state government’s Mumbai urban transport project (MUTP)
and the Union government’s Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC).
He elucidated on how the local
trains are the lifeline of the city and over time, travellers seek better facilities
as well as amenities in their local train travel. Due to these reasons, he
believes that the majority of the people who contributed to the survey sought
an increase in local AC train services.
He also spoke about the future of
non-AC local trains saying that currently, non-AC services will be available as
well in some magnitude in all local trains. He added that soon more AC locals
will be started and in the future, the majority of the trains will be those
with AC services.
Bansal also mentioned that they
are considering including hybrid local trains wherein AC and non-AC coaches
will be present in one train and that in the future it can be anticipated that
all locals will have such a model with a feasibility test been undertaken for
the same.
